After 5 years & 12k subscribers, i‘m shutting this newsletter down
OR NOT!
When MetaGame died, i decided to get rid of all side projects to avoid future burnout. Podcast & newsletter were to be main focus. That didn‘t last long 🥲
Late last year, we started:
Offering content as a service, with Zuitzerland being the first client (part 1 & 2)
Working on a documentary - Built on Ethereum 👀
This resulted in almost complete neglect of both the podcast & the newsletter 😬
So i started thinking i should just let the newsletter die…
🔭 Weekly Meta
But first!
SEC had a hearing about “DeFi and the American Spirit”. They even wrote a twitter thread about DeFi in a positive light, believe it or not.
Stripe acquired Privy & enabled crypto payments for a bunch of merchants, soon to be rolled out to millions of web shops that are using Stripe
SharpLink Gaming - dubbed “Microstrategy for Ethereum but different” - bought 176,271 ETH for $463 million & became the second biggest holder of Ether
Ethereum Foundation decides to donate $500K to the legal defense of Roman Storm & match up to +$750K from the community
$ETH had 20 consecutive days of positive ETF inflows totaling over $1.5bn
Etherealize published a mega bullish narrative piece & website explaining Ether as the “digital oil for the digital economy”, along with a reasonable rationale for why it could reach the price of $740,000 per ETH
ETH finally started outperforming other majors…
Then these memes start popping up:
Is Ether really a cursed asset? Idk, but the middle-east is a cursed land 😂
In a quick series of attacks, Israel destroyed Iran's nuclear facilities & eliminated their entire military command incl. Iran's lead nuclear negotiator. Right before scheduled US-Iran nuclear talks, forcing US into a conflict it was trying to avoid. But Iran has thousands of missiles & drones specifically distributed to survive command decapitation, meaning massive retaliation is underway.
Some say we are on the brink of WW3 - again! 🥲

💀 Why it should die & why it won‘t (yet)
In short, new subscriptions tapered off & engagement is low.
To make it worse, i‘ve been seeing claims that engagement is down across all newsletters, and i‘ve been thinking about all the AI slop, attention spans being down & away from long form written content into short form video content etc.
Why I won‘t let it die? 🤔
I feel like i simply invested too much time & effort over the past 5 years, to just let it die. 11k subscribers is not really impressive, but also not something to just throw away.
I also like writing. It helps me calm down and think more clearly.
So i‘m giving it another shot! 🤷♂️
🧐 What to expect

New post every Saturday - pinky promise!
New format will include commentary on the weekly meta or whatever caught my attention that week, an analysis of a meta (web3, global or personal), and a question.
The point of NextMeta remains - to identify current & next meta before others do.
Meta as in the bigger picture overview as well as the most effective tactic available.
Topics will remain mostly related to Web3, the bigger picture and self-improvement, tho i‘m interested in anything related to helping humans, communities, and ecosystems thrive.

besides consistent publishing, my goals are:
reactivate some of the subscribers
remove >50% of subscribers (inactives)
3x the open rate & click-through rate 😎
after that, my goal will be to reach $420/mo and eventually $2k/mo, so i can stop doing client work to focus on content full time 🙃

Good Work we were early adopters with Bitcoin and several other cryptocurrencies unfortunately one thing led to the next and we no longer have the power and influence we used to have. Anyways I love what you are trying to do here and I just wanted to thank you for the valuable insights.
