The Invisible Hand of Ethereum Marketing w/ Amanda Cassatt
How Ethereum Won Hearts & Minds of Developers
What does it take to market the future? Amanda Cassatt, founder of Serotonin and former ConsenSys CMO, shares her tactics that put Ethereum on the map, as well as her insights from shaping the future of crypto marketing.
Way before founding Serotonin, a Web3 marketing agency that evolved into a full suite of tools and services, before she was the mastermind of Ethereum marketing as the CMO of ConsenSys - Amanda was fresh out of college starting a decentralized media startup called Slant.
She was only looking for a micro-payments solution for her startup when she stumbled upon early Ethereum meetups in New York - then everything changed. Blown by the density of brilliant minds and the potential of Ethereum to reshape the world-system, she immediately joined ConsenSys as Chief Marketing Officer.
"We were explaining something to people that they'd never heard of before. And the only thing we could compare it to was Bitcoin."
Throughout the episode, Amanda recollects her early marketing strategies for Ethereum, focusing on developer outreach and community building through global meetups.
The conversation then shifts to the current state of Web3 marketing and Amanda's work on Serotonin. She explains how they built their single service offering into a whole suite, including products that were fully funded by their cashflow - not VCs!
Amanda also shares her thoughts on the challenges facing the crypto industry, including the shift towards VC-dominated funding rounds and the need for more transparent token launches.
"I want this to be a different looking market and for young people like what I was like in my 20s to have the opportunity now that I had with Ethereum."
