As mentioned in a recent newsletter, itâs about time we started adding more non-MetaGame-specific resources to the wiki. Well, a page on DAOs was long overdue.
But first, the changelog!
Chainlog*
Last week we sent out a newsletter asking yâall to sell your Seeds to us so that we can use them to provide liquidity. Surprisingly, nobody wants to sell their Seeds. Out of 12,295 Seeds minted for 55 people, only 2 people were willing to sell some. A grand total of 275 Seeds - 186 of which were picked up by an unknown address. đ
This makes us both happy & sad. Happy, because it shows that most of you still have faith in MetaGame. Sad, because it means we might have to mint Seeds for liquidity after all. Should we? (only players can access the linked channel)
Onwards:
Dan13 added skills to MyMeta profiles & made good progress on the profile creation flow.
Vanilla added a meta-announcements channel and connected it to 4 other discords: Raid Guild, 1Hive, LexDAO & MetaFactory.
Also added the â!?tokenâ & â!?questsâ to the list of bot command bringing up useful info.
Peth wrote a page about DAOs, explaining what they are with all the links & resources.
Also fixed the images on the front page of the wiki, formatting on a bunch of articles & added the DAO canvas page.
Saimano did some work on updating the design of the wiki, Luxumbra taking the reins & hopefully submitting a PR tonight.
Kay built the first embassy, creating a direct communications channel between MetaGame & 1Hive.
YoungKidWarrior built a BrightID verification bot for Discord.
Ben.oxmo built a bot for Sourcecred to relay cred scores & stats to Discord channels and players, allowing us to significantly shorten the feedback loop.
đľď¸ââď¸Wanted!
React, TypeScript & GraphQL developers to work on MyMeta. Contact @petheth if interested; referrals & recommendations welcome & rewarded.
Since nobody wants to sell their Seeds, at least add some to the liquidity pool đ
đ House of DAOs
Wait, WTF are DAOs?
Short for âDecentralized Autonomous Organizationsâ, DAOs are a new type of organization, enabled by the blockchain technology. Decentralized organizations are nothing new, what makes DAOs different from âjustâ decentralized organizations is that they are constituted on the blockchain and their governance is, at least in theory, controlled by smart contracts.
This allows people to start organizations with complete strangers from around the world and not worry whether one of them will run away with the money, where will the organization be formed and how will they govern the treasury. The ownership of a DAO is usually tokenized and distributed among members, with itâs issuance not centrally controlled by anyone.
There are multiple types of âdecentralizationsâ. Some will say âA DAOâ only implies architectural decentralization; the technology itself. While one may have âa DAOâ whose governance is centralized in a single or a few big shareholders, we do not consider those true DAOs.
If you ask most of us, a DAO should be both architecturally AND politically decentralized to truly be considered a DAO. For a DAO to be considered politically decentralized, itâs voting power should be sufficiently decentralized among its members. How much is sufficient? Well who the hell knows, weâll figure it out.
If you ask me, DAOs are here to enable us to build a world of cooperatively ran organizations and collectively owned platforms & infrastructure.
To recap:
There is no centralized control in the DAO. There is no âCEOâ and no single individual may dictate direction.
There isnât a hierarchy in any traditional sense, no âmanagerialâ & âexecutiveâ layers.
Members allocate resources and make decisions about the direction and initiatives through voting on proposals or practicing other decentralized decision making methods, eg. Holacracyâs Integrative Decision Making Process
There is a complete transparency of every transaction.
