A bunch of people contacted me in the last couple of days, worried they will get kicked out for being inactive.
And you still think weāre joking?
No.
Although there was a serious uptick in the activity on the Discord, Discourse & Github since the last weekās post, this is not enough.
Why?
Thereās much too much to build.
Step 1
Relax, weāre not just going to start kicking people out. Some people currently have too much on their plates (which we can relate to), and for others there simply isnāt much they can do to help us push MetaGame forward - but theyāre all still our people.
So, letās keep it simple. As mentioned earlier, playing MetaGame isnāt about contributing to MetaGame directly, but about improving yourself & doing things that improve the world around you in general.
To be considered an active player, you simply need to come to the MetaGame discord about once a week, open the #check-in channel & tell us: āIāve been working on Xā, āIāve been learning about Yā, āIām having trouble with Zā or something similar.
Step 2
If you want to actually earn some money & maybe end up ranked as one of the founders of MetaGame, youāll have to actually take up some work on MetaGame itself.
Luckily for you, thereās no lack of work in MetaGame.
Builder, are you?
Got some XP with TypeScript, GraphQL, Node or React/NextJS? Thereās a bunch of things we need you for, starting with MyMeta profiles - which is of highest priority.
Other than MyMeta, your skills will be much appreciated in the MetaMaps project & if youāre really about gettinā it on, you could champion the MetaVille tentacle - our weirdest project yet.
Think none of the projects mentioned above are for you? Maybe start with bots. YoungKidWarrior just started porting it to our monorepo, and weāll need the bots for anything from managing roles, to putting out quests & challenges, to bridging convos.
Generalist, are you?
Well hereās one for you: help us run the podcast. First thing we need is someone who likes listening to podcasts to write short posts accompanying each episode. A paragraph long summary & a few bullet points of what was talked about.
Other than that, you could be contributing your knowledge to our knowledge/skill tree system & the wiki to help newcomers find their way in Web3 - or even do something as random as building the MetaGame embassy in cryptovoxels.
Most importantly, you could help spread the gospel of MetaGame to other communities & help find more developers.
Donāt like any of it?
You could also help in whatever way you think you could help, by suggesting improvements & further directions for MetaGame in this thread, anywhere on Discord or in DMs with petheth.
Octo Birthday t-6 Days
I am both proud & disappointed at what weāve achieved during the first year of MetaGame. Proud, because starting MetaGame, I felt utterly incompetent at getting any of it built. āAm I aiming too high?ā has been the question that kept me up on countless of nights, and the answer has always been āAlmost certainly.ā.
But this really is something I always wanted to do, and not-trying just wasnāt an option. Plus, I believe itās not about what I am capable of but about what we are capable of. I defined the scope & memes of the project, but ultimately, itās up to the people joining MetaGame whether weāll make it real or not.
Disappointed, because I always expect things to happen faster than possible and even though we built a great community, set great economic foundations & raised some money, it feels slow.
Disappointed, because some of these weird defi experiments got 10-100x the the attention MetaGame got, in a matter of days. Which goes to show how much of this space is currently still driven by greed vs the want to make the world a better place, as much as we hate to admit it.
Itās time to accelerate MetaGame.
If youāre still wondering how MetaGame works, go through here.
If you want to start contributing, just say so in one of the Discord channels or get in touch with @petheth on Discord, Twitter or Telegram.
